Short Circuit is a film about a military robot named "Johnny 5" that is struck by lightening and comes to life. He wanders off and into the care of a young woman that teaches him what it is like to be human.

This was one of the better mainstream films that was released in the 80's. A remake is in the works, but given the way films turn out these days, it may not live up to the original.

Not to mention, the producers of Wall-e ripped it off.
