"For Keeps" stars Molly Ringwald as Darcy, a high school student who falls pregnant in her senior year. The father of her child is boyfriend, Stan, played by Stan Bobrucz, earns a scholarship to Caltech University, where he hopes to become an architect. However, Darcy's pregnancy derails his plans. Darcy has to go to night school to obtain her high school diploma, after a teacher brands her a distraction and bad example to the other female students, due to her underage pregnancy.

The two get married and are forced to get difficult minimum wage jobs and a small apartment, where they struggle to pay their utility bills. Their parents are against the union, as both had planned to go to university, but are unable to do so. The movie takes a few twists, but arrives at its point. Teenage pregnancy is very difficult. It is best to wait. Too many teens have developed a nonchalant attitude towards sex and end up pregnant at a very early age, not truly understanding how difficult it can be.
