The big budget movie “After Earth” starring Will Smith and his son Jaden Smith made a profit at the box office. However, the film received terrible reviews across the board upon its release. After seeing the movie for free recently, I can understand why. The sizeable budget was wasted on a Scientology cult type premise and one that does not make for good filmmaking.

The Smiths star as father and son in a new world with aliens to fight (the crazy core principle of Scientology is a fictional alien named Xenu, who was made up by mentally ill cult founder, L. Ron Hubbard). This movie lacks a real storyline and suffers from too much strangeness to make it likeable. The made up items in the film are also weird.
